In all honestly yes it is true a high end PC can be the more powerful machine, no doubt about that especially if you spend the right amount of money for it. However, is it really worth spending so much just so much on a PC to get graphics comparable to a console witch is by the way very
inexpensive compared to a high end rig.
Of course Sony or any other next gen system will not make a $1,000+ console. They would not sell many consoles if they did put it at that price point, look at how it hurt the PS3 with that price tag. I do not believe anyone will get there's money worth by spending thousands on a PC while you can spend less than a quarter of that by getting a PS3 and getting wonderful exclusives and the graphics are not that bad either just look at Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 to name a few.
You can build a PC,that can beat consoles for less,than 550$
